Scottish Braveheart

As you all my be aware Im not a true Scotsman, and in more ways than one! But Ive been fascinated by the traditional Scottish attire ever since I moved to Glasgow many years ago. We have a similar traditional clothes back in Bulgaria that people often dress in for more formal occasions like weddings. Ive had the pleasure of wearing a kilt to a few weddings in Scotland, and I must admit I absolutely love it!!! There is nothing quite like strutting your stuff on the dance floor in a skirt! Ive hired from a few places in Glasgow, but by far the guys at Slanj Glasgow top them all. From the experience of fitting, the knowledge and energy of the staff, to the sheer quality of the product you’re wearing. I hired a kilt a few years ago that you could literally see through, the quality of the fabric was so thin it was awful. The materials they use at Slanj are the highest premium quality and you’re aware of this as soon as you put it on. In these photos Im wearing a grey tweed Argyll jacket and matching waistcoat. The kilt was blue with white through it (must ask what the official tartan was). I went for grey socks, blue tie and matching blue flashes for the socks. I seriously loved wearing this!!

I then got a chance to try something that I’ve never tried, tartan trousers! Or as the Scots might say,ā€¯Donald wheres your troosers” (Im sure all the Scots will get that lol). Ive seen shops like TopMan and others doing something similar, but like the kilts @ Slanj, the quality of these trousers were top class.

The trouser experience is certainly different from that of the Kilt, well its certainly warmer for a start! The tartan here was really bright, an nice option if you’re one that likes to stand out from the crowd. Even doing the Slanj photoshoot in Glasgow city centre I can’t count how may people I seen look over and smile when they seen me wear these clothes, its fascinating and warming how this type of clothing really resinates with the Scottish people. I felt like an extra from Braveheart…well not quite! With the trouser option the staff gave me this amazing timepiece to wear, like something from Downton Abbey S(this is available in the store). It was this beautiful intricate bronzed pocket watch, it really finished off the outfit. You feel like a real gent in this outfit, and with the braces I felt really smart and held together. They even do made to measure trousers and kilts if you’re ever thinking of treating yourself.
So next time your thinking of wearing a kilt id highly recommend checking out the guys @Slanj Glasgow, 67 St Vincent Street, G2 5TF, www.slanjkilts.com
